Zoeller Pump Maintainance Tips

As with any mechanical system, it needs regular maintenance. Check the switch and replace it every 3 years or sooner if your unit is running constantly. While you're at it, check and clean the float, inspect the check valve, and make sure the impeller is clear and spinning freely. No sump pump should ever be considered a maintenance free item. If your system is active, proper maintenance and periodic monitoring is the key to long life and dependability.

The question often that comes up the most is "how long will my sump pump last? The life span of a pump could be as little as 2 years to more than 12 years it all depends upon how much use the pump is receiving. A  sump pump that runs constantly is going to wear out faster. If condensation is a problem or you want to remove condensate from your high efficiency furnace see the little giant condensate pump to solve your problem.

For "normal" use  8 years is considered to be the average life of a sump pump. The other factor is how well your sump pump is maintained, poor maintainence will shorten the life of anything, sump pumps included. For more peace of mind in the event of a pump failure consider a Zoeller water powered sump pump back up system.

What Is The Cause Of Sump Pump Failure?

The leading cause for a sump pump to fail is a power failure. The second most common is a faulty float switch, from sticking or just plain worn out. Check the switch requently to make sure it is working properly along with the float assembly to ensure the float arm moves freely. Clean the impeller blade of any debris and make sure there is no blockage of the screen at the discharge pipe or anywhere in the discharge drainage.
